After six years in the making, Yiaga is finally coming to life—a restaurant deeply rooted in history yet reimagined for today. Nestled within Melbourne’s iconic Fitzroy Gardens, this storied site has been a place of gathering since 1908, first as tearooms and later evolving into a dining space in the 1920s. Over the decades, it has seen many incarnations before sitting quietly for nearly ten years. Now, Yiaga is set to breathe new life into this landmark, bringing people together once more.
At the helm is Chef Hugh Allen, marking his first independent venture, in collaboration with acclaimed architect John Wardle and the team from Wardle. Every element of Yiaga has been designed to honour its surroundings—burnt-earth clay tiles warm the dining room, while bricks, textured like nearby tree bark, echo the landscape. Designed and crafted almost entirely in Victoria.
Opening spring 2025. We can’t wait to welcome you.
